HISTORY:

Presents with a ‍-‍day history of ‍painful lumpswelling

Location is on ‍rightleftboth ‍upperlower eyelid

Onset was ‍gradualsudden, ‍spontaneousafter ‍

Symptoms include:

‍painful lump

‍swelling

‍redness around the eyelid

‍tenderness

‍purulent discharge

‍crusting

‍watery eye

‍blurred vision

‍sensitivity to light

‍feeling of a foreign body in the eye

‍fever, up to ‍°, over ‍ ‍hoursdays



Alleviating factors: ‍none, ‍effectiveineffective



Contributing factors:

‍recent blepharitis

‍use of old or contaminated makeup

‍use of contact lenses during the course of the stye

‍poor eyelid hygiene

no history of: ‍stye, ‍chalazion, ‍blepharitis, ‍dry eye syndrome





EXAM:

General appearance: ‍well-appearing, ‍apparent distress

Vital signs: ‍normal, BP ‍, HR ‍, RR ‍, SpO2 ‍ %, Temp ‍°

Eyes: conjunctiva/sclera ‍normal, lids/lashes ‍normal, cornea ‍intact, ‍PERRL, extraocular movements ‍intact, OD 20/‍, OS 20/‍





ASSESSMENT:

‍Hordeolum ‍likelysuspectedpossible

DDx: hordeolum (stye), chalazion, preseptal cellulitis, conjunctivitis, blepharitis, dacryocystitis, keratitis, foreign body in the eye, contact lens-related issues, eyelid neoplasm, herpes simplex blepharitis, allergic reaction, meibomian gland dysfunction





PLAN:

Investigations:

- Slit lamp examination

Treatments:

- Warm compresses

- ‍Erythromycin Ointment

- ‍Oral antibiotics if severe or recurrent

- ‍Analgesics

- Avoidance of eye makeup and contact lens use

- Hand hygiene education

Further care:

- Referral to ophthalmologist

- Follow-up in ‍ ‍daysweeks

- Return if symptoms worsen, if there is an increase in swelling or pain, or if vision is affected
