Abscess Incision and Drainage

Abscess incision and drainage:

- Consent: obtained after discussion on the benefits and risks

- Preparation: ‍alcoholchlorhexidinebetadine

- Anesthesia: ‍local with ‍lidocainelidocaine 1% without epilidocaine 2% without epibupivacainebupivacaine 0.5% ‍ cc

- Procedure: abscess incised, pus drained, ‍pus culture taken, exploration to break down loculations, ‍cavity irrigated

- Dressing: gauze inserted, dry dressing

- Complications: ‍none, procedure ‍well toleratedfairly well toleratedpoorly toleratedinterrupted

- Instructions: wound care, ‍dressing change, pain relief, return if slow improvement or deterioration

- Gauze change: ‍inevery ‍123 days

- Antibiotics: ‍CefadroxilCefadroxil 500mg po BID for 7 daysCephalexinCephalexin 500mg po QID for 7 daysAmoxicillin-clavulanateAmoxicillin-clavulanate 875mg-125mg po BID for 7 daysClindamycinClindamycin 300mg po TID for 7 days
